2025 GMC Yukon revealed, due in Australia soon to take on LandCruiser and Patrol

The updated GMC Yukon is edging closer to Australia, as General Motors targets grey nomads and those who need to tow.

The 2025 GMC Yukon has been revealed, ahead of the SUV's Australian debut next year.

While the fifth-generation Yukon (and its Chevrolet Tahoe sibling) has been on sale in North America since 2020, this latest model represents the major mid-life update for the GMC – with new exterior and interior designs, as well as upgraded technology.

GMSV is expecting to launch the GMC Yukon in the Australian market within the first half of 2025, with buyers offered a 6.2-litre petrol V8 producing 313kW and 624Nm – the same engine found in the related Chevrolet Silverado pick-up – mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

While fuel economy hasn't been announced for the new model or against Australian standards, the outgoing model was rated at 11.2 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, and 8.7L/100km on the freeway according to US EPA testing.

As with the Silverado, the three-row (likely eight seat for Australia) Yukon will be produced in the US before being remanufactured to right-hand-drive at Walkinshaw's factory in Melbourne.

Only to be available in the Denali variant in Australia (US range-topping Denali Ultimate shown), it's expected the Yukon will target the Toyota LandCruiser Sahara ZX and forthcoming Nissan Patrol – offering buyers a premium SUV with a considerable towing capacity.

But unlike the LandCruiser and Patrol – which have traditionally put off-road ability first – the Yukon is more road-biased, while offering a degree of capability in low-traction environments.

Different driving modes allow the driver to change the suspension and transmission to suit the conditions, with the Yukon's Air Ride Suspension which can raise the vehicle up to two inches when encountering an off-road track.

Along with a refreshed exterior with LED lights, the interior now features a portrait 16.8-inch Premium GMC Infotainment Centre screen, along with special stitching, authentic wood detailing, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

GMC's Max Trailering Package is also expected to be offered, providing easier backing of a trailer thanks to Trailer Reverse Trajectory, Trailer Tire Health, and Jackknife Alert.

Yukon buyers will also get transparent trailer and lane centring assist as part of the specifications of the Denali.

Pricing is expected to be announced for the Australian market closer to the 2025 GMC Yukon's local launch.
